Soka Gakkai Lanka Buddhist
Association (SGLBA) is a Buddhist lay organization established
to promote Peace, Education and Culture. SGLBA was established
in Sri Lanka in 1961 and officially registered in 1995.
The philosophical base of the
organization's practice is Nichiren Daishonin’s Buddhism derived
from the Lotus Sutra or the Saddharma Pundarika Sutra, the
epitome teaching of Shakyamuni Buddha that affirms the universal
Buddha nature in all people. This Buddhist philosophy teaches
that every individual has the potential to become enlightened in
his or her lifetime. Each person has within, the power to
overcome life's challenges, to live a life of value and be a
positive influence in one's community, society and the world.
Soka Gakkai means value
creation. It describes the core spirit of Buddhism that teaches
each individual has capacity to develop his or her full human
potential. Buddhism expresses as a religion of self-empowerment
when the principle of value-creation is practiced and applied
fully in one's daily life.
SGLBA is part of an
international network of Soka affiliated organizations under the
Soka Gakkai International (SGI) movement that has membership in
190 countries and territories worldwide.
